American Mini • The Paddy Hopkirk Story

July 11, 2014

Paddy Hopkirk started his winning career in professional racing and rally driving in 1955. Alongside Henry Liddon, he won the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally in a Mini Cooper S car number 37, license plate/registration tag 33 EJB. It was at this historic event that the BMC Works Team put the Mini Cooper on the World Market. Enjoy this twenty-four minute short film about the "Legendary - Paddy Hopkirk" in Todd Dunning's beautiful 1962 Mk. 1.

Classic Mini Cooper Road Test

This is Raul's very fast Mini with 7 port alloy head and SC fuel injection. It also has a 5 speed close ratio straight cut gearbox and limited slip differential. This thing is nuts! What we would call Mini exotica!

Jet Motors Ultimate Classic Mini Ignition Kit

The ignition is one of the four vital systems in your engine's operation. Along with fueling, cooling and lubrication, it would simply not be possible to run your engine without it. Its purpose is to ignite the air/fuel mixture in the engine's cylinders and begin the power stroke. Almost every car built in Britain before 1980 used the traditional Points/Condenser ignition system. This system is prone to unreliability due to the number of components needed. This is why Jeremy Thorpe recommends the PerTronix Classic Mini Ignition kit sold at Jet Motors.

MKI Cooper S VS MKVI Japan Export Mini

The "Rover" Minis, were exported in large numbers to Japan (more so than earlier models), and the Japanese Minis incorporated many differences from the U.K. built Minis. The most common examples are that air conditioning was available on the Japanese Minis, and they did not go to the front mounted radiator when the MPis were introduced in 1996.

The Magical Ranger

First created in 1964 in Leigh on Sea, Essex (UK), the Ranger Cub was a kit car that was based on the Mini. The two seater had a square tubular frame and a fibreglass body. The full front sub frame, including the radiator and suspension came from the Mini with the rear of the vehicle using one half of the Mini rear sub frame. Production of the kits ceased in 1976.
